Job Summary

The CSU Library is open to the entire CSU community–administrators, faculty, staff and students (full and part-time). Every patron that enters the library building must have a valid ID such as driver’s license, state ID, Alumni card, or an Institutional ID card. I-Share Libraries users and the Metropolitan Library System members may enter the library with a library card from the cooperating libraries.
For all library users, the Library Main Entry is the South Center Entry.

Job Description

Provide library security for all traffic that comes in and out of the library.
Must cover the desk during their scheduled time, so that the desk is not unattended.
Pay close attention to patrons entering through the gates, and assist students that are having problems swiping their cards to ensure that cards are being swiped correctly. Watch out for problem cards that may need to be corrected, and direct CSU community with ID Card Problem to the ID department in the Cook building to have the card corrected, but always allow them access to the library by having them to sign-in at the desk.
Do not allow patrons to sit drinks and other objects on top of the security gates or stand inside the gate, for any reason for more than 2 – 3 minutes. Standing in the gate sets off the gate alarm.
Let People exit the library through the RFID security gates.
Monitor the door alarm system mounted on the east wall next to the security desk and observe the entire first floor at all times as well as other floors from the security camera located on the security desk.
Pay close attention to the RFID gate alarm at all times, when patrons are leaving the library. If a gate alarm goes off, stop the patron and send him/her back to the circulation desk to have their items checked. If a patron does not follow the instruction, get a good description of that patron and call CSU police at x2111.
May have to make reasonable accommodation for ADA Compliance by personally opening a back door for them.
Must secure all floors at the closing time.
Should treat multiple item detections, repeated alarms, or what appears to be fraud or theft, in accord with campus police policy.
Responsible for submitting web entry time.
Responsible for requesting a valid ID card as well as writing in the patron’s information.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma with two years of security experience.
Position will require to work nights and weekends
