Job Summary

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2017 Summer Component of the TRiO Upward Bound Program. During the Summer Instructional Component (SIC) the program is residential and operates on the campus of Chicago State University. The SIC is a most intense period, the Academic Coordinator/Recruiter is expected to reside in the Residence Hall. Housing and meals are provided for the Academic Coordinator/Recruiter during the SIC in the Residence Hall and campus cafeteria.

Job Description

Responsible for the specific design and refinement, development, implementation, and evaluation of the Academic Skills Development & Extra-Curricular Activities.
Assumes primary responsibility for the orientation, training, and supervision of SIC Residence Hall Coordinator, Tutor Counselors and SIC Core Teachers and Tutors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree preferred; minimum of an earned bachelor’s degree with an appropriate major, coupled with at least three years experience in secondary and/or postsecondary education as a teaching faculty member, counselor and/or administrator.
• At least one year of experience in educational program administration, preferable with educationally under-prepared youth, and strong administrative skills in the area of program component design and development, staff supervision and activities coordination.
• Ability to develop, implement and evaluate the academic skills development and extra-curricular activities; orientation, training and supervision of the Summer Instructional Component and Academic Year teachers and tutors
• Ability to develop and compile data and statistics for proposal and report development. Must have superior maturity, intelligence and self-discipline; capable of assuming demanding administrative, educational and counseling responsibilities.
• Knowledge of computer applications, minimally word processing and spread sheets.
• Willing to work flexible hours, especially during the summer.
• Ability to interact with people of diverse ages, racial, cultural groups and backgrounds.
