Job Summary

The Vice President for Finance and Administration has responsibility for the leadership and management of the University’s administrative and finance operations, is a member of the executive management team, and reports directly to the President. The vice president is responsible for providing executive level direction and management oversight for financial planning, budgeting and budget analysis, accounting and business operations, finance controls and reporting, purchasing and contracts, mail services, and auxiliary enterprises.

Job Description

Under the direction of the President, the Vice President for Finance and Administration performs some, or all, of the following duties:
• Serves as the financial advisor to the President and executive staff;
• Develops the annual operating and capital budgets and leads the budget process; oversees the University’s treasury functions, including cash management; asset accounting and divisional policies and procedures; and reviews budget vs. actual expenditures with department heads and senior management.
• Coordinates the contracts and services of the campus auxiliary enterprises;
• Directs internal control and audits on University’s administrative departments; coordinates report preparation, responses, and implementation.
• Serves as advisor to the Board of Trustees’ committees on Finance and Audits
• Works cooperatively and collaboratively with the campus community, including the Faculty
Senate, Civil Service Council, Employee Advisory Committee, Student Government, the President’s Executive Committee, and others;
• Responsible for accurate and timely reporting of financial information to the President and outside agencies and groups;
• Conducts short and long range financial forecasting;
• Assists the president and other administrators in gathering, collating, and analyzing data relative to the financial operations of the University;

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree required; CPA preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in financial administration and management. Candidates with experience in higher education and who demonstrate an understanding of the distinctive nature of financial operations are encouraged to apply; however, candidates from other areas of financial management will be given full consideration. Candidates should also be familiar with a wide variety of financing and revenue generating techniques including public/ private ventures and partnerships The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of strategic decision-making and leadership as well as knowledge of facilities planning and management; debt management and budget development and management. A collaborative person of integrity with the ability to communicate with the Board, colleagues across the college, and external constituents is critical. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in a related field and/or a CPA

• Strong background in business, accounting or financial management.
• Experience as a proven senior executive in higher education, foundation, government or business organization of relevant size and complexity.
• Extensive experience in financial systems applications in the financial and management areas.
• experience in dealing with local, state, and federal legislative and regulatory processes as they affect public universities.
• Evidence of developing progressive business policies and practices that advance the strategic goals of the organization.
• Familiarity with Ellician Banner System preferred
• Ability to manage, plan and coordinate technical activities while making sound decisions, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines on a regular basis by effectively managing own time and delegation to subordinates.
• Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ability to organize and direct a staff of professional and administrative personnel.
