Job Description Summary

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in general recreation (ability to teach outdoor education, team-building, and aquatic courses is an advantage), serve on department, college, and university committees, establish linkages with professional organizations and school districts, seek external funding when possible, participate in scholarly activity, be committed to the recruitment and retention of students, and undertake additional responsibilities deemed important by the department.

Required Education

A terminal academic degree (Ph.D or Ed.D) in Recreation and Park Administration/Leisure Studies or a related field is required. Practical experience in the field of recreation and parks is preferred. Experience in college teaching and research, and professional service is desired. Candidates must have focused scholarship in the area of recreation/leisure studies.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in teaching with technology, knowledge of how to develop professional and community networks, and ability to engage in research activities needed for promotion and tenure. Experience creating and delivering classroom instruction using face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities is also desired, in addition to the ability to contribute to building a strong program and department.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in general recreation. The successful candidate shall have prior teaching experience at the university level, significant leadership capabilities, involvement in professional activities, and a background in scholarly activity and grant writing. An awareness of and sensitivity to a multicultural population is required.
