Job Summary

The Center for STEM Education & Research (CSER) is funded by a grant from the US Department of Education and houses other federally funded programs such as the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ILSAMP) and the Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence (LSMCE), both funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). CSER and all affiliated programs aim at increasing the quantity and quantity of underrepresented minority (URM) students graduating and pursuing a career or matriculating into graduate programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The Center also aims at enhancing faculty development and fostering faculty productivity in the areas of grantsmanship and research.
The CSER programming associate has the primary responsibility of managing the implementation of the Center’s initiatives.

Job Description

The programming associate will also be expected to work closely with collaborating partner institutions to: 1) Ensure the smooth and timely processing and execution of subcontracts, 2) Build partnerships with other institutions, 3) Manage the social media communication network of the center and maintains a cyber-portal – cCSER, 4) Develop program brochures and quarterly newsletters as well as documenting and filing meeting minutes, 5) Collaborate with the project team members, subcontractors and all partnering institutions to organize grant-related and other conferences as needed, 6) Support project evaluators in data collection for annual assessment and IRB related matters, 7) Work with the PI/Director to prepare reports to the Center’s Advisory Board and funding agencies, and 8) Manage data collection systems such as WebAmp.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should have completed a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum of two years of experiences in project management or academic programming at institutions of higher education that offer STEM degree programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should have completed a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, and have a minimum of three years of experiences in project management or academic programming at institutions of higher education that offer STEM degree programs. Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in the STEM fields. Candidates are expected to have strong organizational skills, grant management experiences, familiarity with program evaluation, and competence with digital communication technologies including social media networking. Past experiences must include work that required independent judgment, conflict resolution, problem solving and critical thinking. Knowledge of university operations and excellence in written and interpersonal communication are also required. Must be able to work with multiple and diverse organizations.
