Job Description Summary

The Chicago State University Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for the position of Access Services Librarian. This is a 12-month, tenure-track Library Faculty position. Under the direction of the Chair of Library and Instruction Services, the Access Services Librarian will provide leadership, oversight, and strategic planning for Access Services. The successful candidate will coordinate the services and staff of Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Print/Electronic Reserves, and Stacks Maintenance. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Provide leadership in planning, developing and coordinating Access Services operations;
•Identify need for new resource sharing services and/or service enhancements in response to internal and external developments and user expectations;
•Foster a strong customer service orientation among Access Services staff;
•Navigate and interpret state, national and consortial access services and interlibrary loan policies;
•Ensure that all internal and external service commitments are routinely met;
•Maintain an awareness of trends and developments and laws and regulations in access services, resource sharing, document delivery, and copyright law as it pertains to resource sharing;
•Propose, implement, and evaluate new services or service enhancements in response to new trends, user expectations, technological advancements, and changes in copyright law;
•Plan and direct implementation of new resource sharing software and system upgrades;
•Work closely with Systems Librarian and staff to test, evaluate and troubleshoot software and equipment;
•Work with the Systems Librarian to manage ROVER, the library’s automated storage and retrieval system;
•Draft policies for Access Services and ensures they are readily available to patrons;
•Create Access Services instructional guides for patrons and training materials for civil service and student employees;
•Hire, train, coordinate, and evaluate 5 fulltime civil service employees and a number of part-time student workers;
•Collect and analyze departmental data and generate reports related to Access Services.
•Oversee open access initiatives.
The successful candidate will be an engaged member of our faculty who will serve on library committees, the University’s Open Access Committee, and participate in research and service activities. Some evening and occasional weekend hours may be required.

Required Education

MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second subject Master’s or Ph.D.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Experience with the Voyager Integrated Library System
•Experience in a consortial library environment
•Experience with circulation, reserves and interlibrary loan services
•Experience with supervision of personnel
•Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills; aptitude for detail-oriented work; high degree of initiative; and ability to identify and implement appropriate changes within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
•Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions of a diverse workforce.
•Ability to meet contractual and unit criteria for performance of primary duties, research, and service.
