Job Description Summary

The Chicago State University Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for the position of Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian. Library and Information Science professionals who are interested in managing electronic resources and working in a collaborative environment are encouraged to apply. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Reference and Instruction, the successful candidate will provide reference services as part of a team of professionals maintaining and developing reference and instruction services to support the library’s academic mission. The successful candidate will serve on the library collection development team and serve as a subject specialist and departmental liaison. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

In addition to providing reference services, the Reference and Electronic Resources Librarian will have primary leadership responsibility for selection and maintenance of electronic resources as well as managing access to and evaluation of those resources. The successful candidate will participate in initiatives to enhance the discovery and use of electronic library resources to meet user needs. The librarian will serve as liaison to vendors regarding electronic resource technical issues; coordinate vendor demonstrations and trials; provide feedback on technical compatibility with electronic resource infrastructure; manage the technical changes necessary for electronic resource management; develop and maintain the information in an electronic resource knowledge management system or database; manage the library’s link resolver; collect and analyze usage statistics for electronic resources; manage related display of resources on the library website; and maintain current awareness of emerging trends.

Required Education

MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second subject Master’s or Ph.D.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong commitment to quality reference services; proven experience in reference and instruction; and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in library instruction, reference services, information technology, and online library resources.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills; aptitude for detail-oriented work; high degree of initiative; and ability to identify and implement appropriate changes within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions of a diverse workforce.
  • Successful candidate must meet contractual and unit criteria for performance of primary duties, research, and service.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with licensed electronic resources in a library environment; familiarity with linking technology (Open URL resolvers, discovery tools, etc.) and authentication protocols; familiarity with an Integrated Library System (ILS).
