Job Summary

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Project SUCCESS Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) assists adults (19 years and older) who do not hold a four-year degree and are interested in enrolling in postsecondary education. This project also assists individuals in need of GED credentials. This position will help assist with achieving the goals of this project.

Job Description

Project SUCCESS Educational Opportunity Center, one of the federal TRiO programs is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Community Outreach Specialist responsible for:
• Assisting with program outreach and recruitment;
• Providing academic and financial aid advisement to program participants;
• Assisting participants with career exploration and planning;
• Assisting with the completion of college admissions and financial aid applications;
•Conduct presentations and provide initial program services, including services to incarcerated individuals at various Illinois Department of Corrections facilities across the state;
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Criminal Justice or other related field;
• Three to five years experience working with under-served populations;
• Basic knowledge of financial aid/FAFSA process and forms and college admissions processes;
• Experience with academic advising;
• Excellent presentation and communication skills;
• Detail- oriented;
• Computer literate (some Word processing experience, i.e. Word, WordPerfect, etc.); and
• Team player.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the city of Chicago and southern Cook County is a plus;
• Knowledge of/experience with General Education Diploma (GED) enrollment and testing requirements;
